What are the lemon water benefits that improve your health and well being?
Lemon water benefits in the morning are all we need this summer as we go galloping around the town. Why? Most of us associate lemons and citrus fruits with vitamin C, but that is not all they have to offer. According to the USDA National Nutrient Database, lemons contain everything from vitamin B6, vitamin A, vitamin E, folate, niacin, thiamin, riboflavin, and pantothenic acid to minerals like calcium, copper, iron, magnesium, potassium and phosphorus.
Lemon water has many nourishing elements that help our body remain fresh and hydrated throughout the season. Summer is here and it is time to fight the scorching heat by staying fit and hydrated. The Cleveland Clinic recommends: simply squeeze half of a lemon into a glass of water because of 7 reasons.
1. Aids in digestion Acid helps break down food. The acid in lemons may be especially helpful in supplementing stomach acid levels, which tend to decline as we age.
2. Helps you stay hydrated: Most of us do not drink enough water. A daily lemon water habit is an easy way to get your day off on the right foot. How do you know if you are drinking enough ? Your urine is almost clear.
3. Weight-loss friendly: We are creatures of habit. Ponder the impact of replacing your morning orange juice or latte with lemon water. Not just once, but perhaps 20 times a month and your waist line will thank you.
4. Prevents oxidation: Lemons contain phytonutrients which protect your body against disease. These phytonutrients have powerful antioxidant properties which prevent cell damage from oxidation.
5. Supplies a healthy dose of vitamin C: Squeeze half a lemon into your water and you will add a mere 6 calories to your diet. Plus you will get more than a sixth of your daily vitamin C, which is needed to protect us from cell damage and repair injury. Vitamin C is known to help the body produce collagen, which contributes to the integrity of the skin
6. Provides a potassium boost: Your body cannot function without potassium. It is necessary for nerve-muscle communication, transporting nutrients and waste and blood pressure regulation. Fruits and vegetables are important sources of potassium. Lemons even contain more potassium than apples or grapes.
7. Helps prevent kidney stones: Lemon water helps prevent painful stones in those deficient in urinary citrate (a form of citric acid). More importantly, increased fluids help prevent dehydration — a common cause of kidney stones.
How to enjoy lemon water: Simply squeeze half a lemon into a glass of water. How much? When? It really does not matter. Any way you do it is a big plus for your health.
Do not forget the peel: Capture the rich nutrients by zesting your lemon (organic, please) and using it in baking or cooking.
