THINGS TO DO TO STAY HEALTHY DURING THE SUMMER

Physicians and other medical staff have long working days, with too many patients and mountains of tasks in the hospital.  Тheir high stressful profession requires ways to refresh from the mental and physical restraint,  especially during the summer holiday.

Great weather and long days give a big boost to any healthy summer goals. A change of season calls for a change in routine, a revamped diet, and of course, a new exercise regimen that suits the weather. The onset of warm weather can make your body more vulnerable to different types of diseases and certain health guidelines must be followed to ensure a healthy summer.   Here are a few tips to stay healthy this summer:

1. Stay  Hydrated

Probably the most talked-about summer tips include staying hydrated. Due to the many responsibilities in the hospital, hydration can be forgotten.  Тhis can be solved if there is always a bottle of water on your desk or you can use a phone reminder for hydration. You can carry water with you in a hard plastic container whenever you go out.

Drink lots of water, at least two to four cups upon getting up in the morning, and similar amounts for your activities and exercises. Mostly, we need two to three quarts of water per day and more in hot weather or during sweating and exercising. So it is implausibly vital to keep yourself hydrated by drinking at least eight to nine glasses of water a day.

2. Eat Healthy and Light  

Next on the list of healthy summer tips is following a balanced diet. Maintaining a proper diet and eating seasonal fruits and vegetables regularly is a must. Include some protein with one or two meals in your diet and avoid oily or junk food .You should have small and light meals as part of your summer healthcare routine. It is important not to starve, and you can have a light meal when you have a break or between exams.

Heavy food is difficult to digest, makes you lazy, and increases your cholesterol, which badly affects your health.

3. Have Necessary Nutritional Supplements

As medical professionals, you know well that proper nutritional supplements can support you with greater physical energy and increase your summer activities. The B-complex vitamins relax the nervous system and are pretty helpful for cellular energy production. The other antioxidants protect your body from stress, chemical pollutants, and the biochemical by-products of exercising.

4. Have Proper Skincare in the Summer 

One of the most important summer season tips is taking care of your skin. The skin should be properly moisturized in the summer. For completely dry skin, you can also use cream moisturizer. Facial skin should be properly washed in the summer to protect it from heatstroke and dust particles. This task should be done three to four times a day.

5. Treat Your Eyes Well 

Protect your vision from the harsh sunlight during work and when having fun, by wearing protective eyewear. When outdoors, wear sunglasses that block at least 99% of ultraviolet rays.

6. Avoid Alcohol, Fizzy Drinks and Caffeine 

Alcohol, fizzy drinks and coffee all can leave you dehydrated quickly. You inform your patients about this, but it is very important that you apply it yourself.

It is fine that everyone wants to have a good time in the summer but there should be a limit to having alcoholic beverages when going out with friends. Over-intoxication can affect your health badly. Also, drinking alcohol in the sun can dehydrate you quickly because you sweat and urinate more. If at all possible, try to reduce the amount of these favorite beverages, especially during hot weather. Plain or flavored water is a good substitute.

7. Schedule Outdoor Activates Carefully 

Working in a hospital allows you to stay in an air-conditioned indoor location as much as you can.  Try to remain indoors between 10 am to 3 pm as the sun’s rays are the harshest during this time range. Too much sun exposure can cause several skin problems including skin cancer.

8. Exercise Regularly and Stay Fit

When the temperature goes up in the summer months, exercising outside can become challenging. Even heat-loving, sun-seeking exercisers can become overheated when the sun is beaming down in the heat of the day. But it is very important to stay active and fit, especially because you have experienced high levels of stress at work which can influence your physical and mental health.

During the hot summer days, you should exercise at least twice a week, in the morning before 1о am or afternoon after 6 pm. Besides regular sport activities, try walking, swimming or biking on a daily base. Even gardening or walking the dog counts.
