The World Health Organization says that about 422 million people around the world have diabetes and that 1.5 million people die directly from diabetes every year. Type 2 diabetes is the most common. Diabetes usually starts in people over the age of 45, but there has been a rise in cases in children, teens, and young adults in recent years. Once called juvenile diabetes or insulin-dependent diabetes, type 1 diabetes is a long-term condition in which the pancreas makes little or no insulin on its own. Stopping the rise of diabetes and obesity by 2025 is a goal that everyone agrees on.
Some of your favorite actors, singers, athletes, and TV hosts are among the many people with diabetes. This time, we chose four well-known actresses who know how to take care of their diabetes every day.
Tom Hanks
The Oscar winner was told he had type 2 diabetes in 2013, but now that he has had some time to think about his life and habits, he knows what led to that diagnosis.
In a new interview with Radio Time, Tom Hanks says that when he was younger, he should have taken better care of himself. “I’m part of the lazy American generation that kept dancing blindly through the party and is now sick,” he says. “I weighed a lot. You’ve seen me in movies. You already know how I looked. I was a complete fool.”
The actor from “Bridge of Spies” said he would try to keep his diet under control by making small changes to his meals, but it turned out that it wouldn’t be enough. “I thought that if I took the buns off my cheeseburgers, I could avoid it,” he says. “Well, that’s not enough,” she said.
But his diagnosis won’t get him down. Hanks stays upbeat about his health problem. “My doctor says I won’t have Type 2 diabetes anymore if I reach a certain weight,” he says.
Halle Berry
The woman who came in second place at Miss USA, won Miss World, and won the Oscar for Best Actress in 2003 was told she had diabetes when she was 19 years old. Berry learned that she needed to make some big changes to her life for the sake of her health after a few years of “scary situations” and not knowing what was wrong with her. So, the actress gave up processed sugars and bread and now eats a clean, healthy diet. She told the L.A. Times that she eats a lot of vegetables and drinks a lot of water.
“I eat four small meals every day to keep my diabetes under control. I like to feel healthy and strong. To be successful, you have to be willing to face reality, no matter how hard it is. My diabetes is easy to deal with, and it hasn’t caused any problems for me. My life was saved by diabetes. Berry told Women & Home South Africa, “I am healthier now than I have ever been.”
Salma Hayek
In 2007, when she was pregnant with her daughter Valentina, a famous Mexican actress, director, and producer got gestational diabetes. Hayek has said that she got gestational diabetes because she gained 50 pounds while she was pregnant.
She said that the experience was both scary and humbling. She told Glamour, “You don’t know if [the baby] is going to be healthy; you have no power over it.” She said at the time that she was eager to lose the weight that was giving her health problems, but she didn’t want to do it in a way that would give her new health problems. She said, “There are short cuts, but they aren’t good for the baby.” “So I’m taking my time. “I’ve lost a lot of weight—most of it—and I’m very proud of it because it’s been a lot of work to learn what healthy foods I can eat,” she said.
Now, Hayek is said to stay fit and healthy by doing yoga, dancing, swimming, lifting weights, and going for walks with her dogs. She is still in some of the best shape of her life, even though she had gestational diabetes. This is because she didn’t have any long-term problems from it.
Sharon Stone
Another great actress in history, Basic Instinct’s O. The Muse, was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. She was in movies like Casino, for which she won the Golden Globe for best actress. People often ask Sharon Stone, who is 61 years old, what she does to stay in shape. She told E! News, “My secret isn’t a secret.”
“I just do what everyone else should do. I eat well, get enough sleep, and exercise, so I’m happy. I have a nice family and good friends. I choose what’s good. I choose the good and happy things. I don’t choose things that are bad, unhealthy, or make me unhappy.”
“What if you just don’t do the dumb, stupid, unhappy things?” she continued. “Took me a long time to figure that out, but I think that’s what it really is.”
Stone says she realized this, “After I was really unhappy and unhealthy, I think it dawned on me to stop doing the unhappy, unhealthy things.”
The proof is definitely in Stone’s age-defying beauty!
