What will drive future hospitals?
Abstract
Lessons learned during the COVID crises are urging hospitals to reinvent strategies, if they want to retain and upgrade the quality of their medical service and competitiveness on the market. Main trends to drive future hospitals are hybrid hospital models, virtual medical care, well-being of medical staff and patient experience research. Hybrid hospital models, create positive experiences and meet patients’ expectations for preventive and acute medical care while they are at home. Digital care is becoming a must for future hospitals. Numbers show positive patient experiences while receiving medical care through digital channels.
But, in order to implement digital transformation in hospitals and to reduce burnout of medical staff at the same time, hospitals need to invest efforts and resources to improve the working environment thus increasing the staffs’ well-being. Finally, creation of new service alliances between prestigious research universities and leading businesses are needed to design transformative holistic models that will integrate physical, social and digital elements of patient experiences and deliver tailor-made future medical services. Because, contrary to prevalent belief, today’s innovations are less about technology and more about the people and their positive experiences.
