Dr. Cagri Sade
a renowned plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgeon based in Istanbul
Dr. Cagri Sade is one of Turkey’s most esteemed plastic, reconstructive, and aesthetic surgeons. Over his career, he has performed thousands of successful procedures and trained under some of the most prestigious names in the field.
Dr. Sade earned his medical degree from Ankara University and completed his residency at Sisli Etfal Hospital, Istanbul’s premier teaching and research hospital. Today, he splits his time between his thriving Plastic Surgery Center and the renowned American Hospital in Istanbul’s luxurious Nisantasi district. He offers a wide range of surgical and non-surgical aesthetic and reconstructive procedures to both men and women.
What is the most difficult and rewarding aspect of performing plastic surgery?
“A plastic surgeon must be skilled, patient, and able to treat each patient as an individual,” says Dr. Sade.
“The most challenging part isn’t the technical skill required but managing patients’ expectations of the procedure and their post-surgery appearance. Supporting and reassuring patients throughout all stages of their treatment, especially during recovery, is critical.
Time may be beyond our control, but we can choose to reduce or eliminate its visible effects. The most rewarding part of my work is seeing happy, satisfied patients after their procedures.”
Do you frequently encounter patients with unrealistic expectations? How do you decide which procedures to perform?
“Yes, patients often come in with unrealistic demands or bring dream photos as reference points. It’s important to set realistic expectations and educate the patient.
Before every operation, I have detailed discussions about their wishes, expectations, the type of procedure, and the recovery process. Each decision is based on factors such as anatomy, age, height, and weight. It’s similar to solving a mathematical problem. I avoid procedures that might result in an unnatural appearance.”
What are the most common surgeries you perform, and what are the latest trends in aesthetic surgery?
“Aesthetic medicine has become an integral part of daily life. The age limits for procedures are expanding, and treatments are no longer seen as a status symbol but as accessible solutions.
For a long time, breast augmentation and rhinoplasty were the most popular surgeries. Today, I perform a wide variety of procedures. Facelifts, Brazilian butt lifts, liposuction, and Mommy Makeovers are common, while ultrasonic rhinoplasty and eyelid surgeries are tried-and-true options.
Men are increasingly opting for hair transplants and liposuction, while women often combine multiple procedures, like breast lifts and Brazilian butt lifts, in a single session.”
How important is communication in ensuring a positive patient experience?
“Communication is at the heart of the medical profession. Patients need to trust their doctors, and that trust is often built through clear, empathetic communication.
The first meeting is crucial for establishing a strong relationship. Patients prefer doctors who can communicate in ways that make them feel included in the process. Poor communication can lead to dissatisfaction and a loss of trust, so it’s vital to tailor communication styles to the patient’s preferences.”
Navigating Cultural Differences in Communication
Given that you work with people from diverse cultural backgrounds, how do these differences influence your approach to patient communication?
“You learn to adapt. Each culture has its unique way of expressing itself, but health is universal, and there are boundaries. For example, I need to explain to patients—even a young, healthy person—that losing 10 kg of body fat in a single session isn’t realistic. Setting these boundaries with care is essential.”
Dr. Cagri Sade’s emphasis on individualized care and effective communication demonstrates the critical role these elements play in modern medicine, particularly in aesthetic and reconstructive surgery.
