There has never been a city-state that is more about luxury and pleasure in life quite like Monaco. It is best known for parks and gardens, rolling hills and coastline, motorsports and racing, and its unique mix of French, Italian, and Spanish architecture. People go there, expecting to see famous casinos, resorts, beaches, and cafes.

However, sometimes living your life to the fullest can get you in serious trouble in relation to your health. Fortunately, is it possible that a medical examination would be like a day spent in a 5-star hotel with a utmost care for personal needs?  In Monaco, everything is possible.

Monaco’s Princess Grace Hospital named after the iconic Hollywood actress who then became the city-state’s most famous princess comes as nosurprise which is the most popular institution of its kind in the Principality.

Monaco’s top public hospital is located on an exceptional site in the hills of the Principality and is the only public hospital in the Principality of Monaco.

Their professionals put their knowledge and skills at the service of the public to create Patient Luxury Experiences.

No matter what your illness, here you will get treated with the utmost care.

Healthcare in Monaco has such a good reputation that almost 20% of patients are high-end medical tourists. This has led to the development of VIP packages for one day examinations, which include a gastronomy breakfast, a full medical examination, and clinical studies in an extraordinary luxurious and private setting. The hospital rooms are replaced by small en-suite apartments that allow patients to relax with a gorgeous view of the French Riviera. What’s more, the service is highly specialized and caters to each patient’s individual requests and needs. Medical staff continuously monitor the condition of the patients and they are in communication with them, fully available for all their thoughts and doubts.

“Our upscale, international patients appreciate the fact that this multidisciplinary medical service is available in a single location at the same time”, emphasises Dr Gilles Chironi, who heads up the unit opened in 2016 – “Monaco Princess Grace Check Up.”  This luxury department, has three private 70 m2 suites, offering five-star comfort and decor, a spacious adjoining lounge area where patients can host relatives or colleagues (to work between examinations), a full range of technologyand a panoramic view of the sea and the Rocher.

In addition to these wellbeing material features, a team of professionals is on hand to provide a VIP welcome and a non-site chef creates gourmet dishes from our menu or tailored to your requirements. Menus are international and balanced, complemented by a selection of prestigious wines for those who wish to partake. The catering service is also committed to meeting patients’ individual, cultural and religious dietary requirements.

“The main goal of the department team is to provide patients with not only a high-quality clinical care and expertise, but also with a comfortable and calm atmosphere which enables them to feel safe and relaxed and enhances their Experiences“, GillesChiron, says.

He emphasizes that when they start their medical examination, regardless of how serious it is, very often theyfeeldisturbedandnervous. Here at the “Monaco Princess Grace Check-Up,” patients can be relaxed and feel like they are at home or at some luxurious resort. They can spend their free time between different examinations to read or even to work if they need to do so.

“We take the privacy of our patients and their personal information very seriously, as well as the principles of medical ethics. There are a number of examinations that the patient undergoes in the main building where we the principal hospital equipment is. We take the patient’s case unless the patient prefers to remain discreet. However, they are required to go for an examination in another building which has a passage on the lower floor that allows them to conduct the examination and remain unnoticed from the outside”, adds a doctor from Monaco’s Princess Grace Hospital.

So, what happens after the Check-up?

Hospital staff stay in touch with patients. Research shows that continuity of care is crucial part of the  Patient Luxury Experience.  “Sometimes they call us themselves in order to get some advice or professional recommendations. If the check-up revealed a disease, depending on the seriousness of the malady, there are two options: the patient either stays at our centre for treatment or with their permission, we send the results of the examination to their regular doctor and they proceed with the following treatment with them. The most important thing for us is that they feel good and have the self-confidence to continue with their daily activities”, shares the Check-up centre’s representative.

The “Monaco Princess Grace Check-Up” department received its own building only in March 2016, but even before that the Princess Grace Hospital offered check-ups. “The decision to create a new department dedicated only to check-ups is part of the government policy of the principality and serves its goal to promote Monaco and to increase its attractiveness”, Gilles Chironi says.

This year the Princely Government of Monaco has awarded 98 million Euros  for the initial phase of the  reconstruction of Princess Grace Hospital . The New 16-storey hospital will spread over 65,000m2  floor space and will have a six-level underground car park.
